Hello, my name is Michael Hickman. I was born in Yorkshire, England, where my late sister first introduced me to the spirit of adventure. In my teenage years, I took up cycle touring, exploring the scenic landscapes of Yorkshire.
Today, I live and work in Thailand, and cycling remains a significant part of my life. There’s nothing I love more than discovering new places—whether close to home or further afield. There is always something fascinating waiting to be explored, and this curiosity deeply influences my writing.
One place that left a lasting impression on me is Lumpini Park in Bangkok, Thailand. As one of the city’s most iconic green spaces, Lumpini Park inspired the setting of my debut novel, Lumpini Park – a romantic adventure story that captures the beauty, complexity, and transformation of Bangkok during 2009–2010.
Anyone who has visited this park knows its charm—cyclists, runners, and families from all walks of life gather here. Nestled among skyscrapers, the BTS Skytrain, and city traffic, Lumpini Park remains a peaceful oasis filled with lush trees, lakes, and even roaming wildlife.
I am continually drawn to Thailand’s vibrant culture, historic temples, old villages, and bustling urban life. Bangkok and the surrounding provinces offer a rich cultural backdrop that fuels my storytelling. I often jot down observations from what I see, hear, taste, and experience—this immersive approach brings authenticity and vivid detail to my work.
While writing Lumpini Park, I stayed at two of the real hotels featured in the story to capture their true atmosphere. Writing on the move became its own kind of adventure. The novel is filled with rich description, allowing readers to feel as if they are walking the streets of Bangkok themselves, witnessing the city’s evolution through Michael’s eyes.
If you are looking for a slow-burn emotional journey, filled with cross-cultural romance, personal transformation, and a vivid portrayal of Thailand, I invite you to explore my novel Lumpini Park.

Lumpini Park
An Unforgettable Modern-Day Romance. A tale of love, loss, adventure, and the choices that change everything.
Michael thought a year in Thailand would be his escape—a chance to break free from a failing ten-year marriage and the crushing weight of his parents’ doubts. Teaching in Bangkok was meant to be a fresh start, an adventure. But from the very first day, things go wrong. His director deceives him, his contract is tampered with, and his new life feels anything but welcoming. Seeking solace, Michael loses himself in the bustling streets of Bangkok and the quiet beauty of Lumpini Park—a hidden oasis that becomes his sanctuary.
Back home, Sybilla is determined to reclaim him, refusing to accept that their marriage is beyond saving. But Michael is no longer the man who left. Then, just as he begins to embrace his new life, fate intervenes. A chance encounter with Aom, the stunning yet elusive receptionist from his old apartment, stirs something deep within him. She is everything he never knew he was searching for, but before he can grasp the moment, she slips away.
Determined to follow his heart, Michael chooses to stay in Thailand, believing he has nothing left to lose. But love, like life, is never simple. As political unrest brews and personal struggles mount, he finds himself on a path filled with passion, uncertainty, and impossible choices.
In a foreign land where dreams and reality blur, Lumpini Park is a gripping tale of love, redemption, and the journey to find where the heart truly belongs.
